The Geissele HICAR is an experimental 11.5-inch 5.56 carbine developed for the USSOCOM Hypervelocity Improved Capability Assault Rifle effort. It pairs a reinforced action with heat-resistant barrel steel so the compact platform can handle ammunition operating well above conventional 5.56 pressure. Geissele demonstrated the rifle with a 77-grain Sierra MatchKing load in Peak Alloy cases and reported about 2,700 feet per second, along with hits beyond 800 yards. The HICAR remains a program prototype rather than a normal commercial model, making it a useful reference for builders interested in how advanced ammunition, stronger materials, and a short AR-pattern platform can extend practical range.
Best for a HICAR-inspired reference build, a modern military prototype collection, or an educational comparison of compact high-pressure 5.56 systems. It is not a direct commercial shopping configuration because the complete HICAR and its demonstration ammunition are not currently offered as standard retail products.
